At Saltery Bay the campground was totally deserted. We had the pick of the sites. The view from the water was spectacular! We had a quiet night of reading and knitting.
Powell River was next in line. Barb and Dave Rees gave us the deluxe tour of the area. They also generously “gave us their spot” at the campground (as it wasn’t rented to anyone else yet). We had the ocean and the park on two sides.
Sweater finally started eating and drinking again, a sign that he had rounded the corner.
Barb introduced us to her Sunshine Toastmaster club where we were warmly welcomed and Allan even won the Knock Yourself Out Award.
We got to visit the beautifully designed and recently built government house of the Tla’amin Nation who signed their final treaty with Canada and were celebrating their independence.
Downtown Powell River had a little treasure: a wool shop! I have always bought my wool online but I couldn’t resist this lovely Malabrigo from Peru, sheared from “happy sheep”. I also got this lovely ebony shawl pin from Lund to go with it. But this will have to wait until I finish the Christmas presents I’m making for others and work on MY Christmas present. But I’m making good progress on sweater #3 of 5.
Further down the road we finally arrived at the real Mile 0 in Lund, the beginning of Highway 101 which stretches from there all the way to Chile! Lund is a cute fishing village with salmon fish and chips to die for.
